Founded in 1565 under a royal charter from Queen Elizabeth I, Highgate School stands as one of London’s leading independent day schools. Furthermore, located in Highgate Village, the school educates pupils aged 4-18 across its Pre-Preparatory, Junior & Senior Schools. In addition, although it was originally a boys’ grammar school, it became fully co-educational in 2004 and ended boarding in 1997. Since then, Highgate has grown in reputation. Today, Highgate is recognised for academic excellence, strong community partnerships, and notable alumni, blending historic tradition with modern innovation.
Highgate School faced a familiar challenge: maximising storage capacity for students without compromising valuable square footage. Therefore, the school replaced outdated lockers with new ones to boost capacity and improve the look and feel of their estate.
Working with the Lockertek team, the school merged two locker rooms into one and increased locker numbers within the same footprint. Outdated units were replaced with stylish new lockers. In addition, fresh paintwork and upgraded lighting further enhanced the space. A once tired corner of the campus transformed into a vibrant space, combining bold locker door colours with durable frames for function and style.
To ensure long-term practicality, Lockertek added extras like sloping tops for easier cleaning and integrated seat stands for convenience. Moreover, smart design and planning, combined with these features, created a solution that increased capacity and improved aesthetics. Ultimately, Highgate School’s new facilities demonstrate how effective design enhances storage while improving the overall learning environment.
